Growth or Change ?

I wanted to find an answer to a seemingly not complicated question… Is our  behavior  in life motivated by our beliefs, ideals and  values ...or do we build our system of beliefs to accommodate our  behavior..?

What comes first?

I am pretty sure, that large discrepancy between what we preach and how we act…doesn’t’ work very well with our human psyche. If we follow that road, most likely, we would feel confused or even prone to identity crises. So… we try to “create peace” in this department, by  following our "philosophical guidelines" of behavior  or by  “writing memorandum” explaining our actions …according to certain philosophy; using logic or pseudo-logic in constructing our cohesive world.

World which operates in sync  with our present actions, reflecting our  perception of it, at that particular  time.…Most often, our behavior will change again, leaving us  with no other option, but to adjust  our understanding  of the world… We may even call it growing, changing or maturing…but is it…or is it not?

I think, it all depends on our motives… If we are being influenced by selfish reasons, giving them a final voice or … our consideration is fueled by empathy, love and caring for others. After all, growth is defined as a positive force…indicating the change for better… on the other hand change can have either positive or negative charge. When the clean edges of dos and don’ts start shifting, allowing the undefined grey line of “maybe” to exist… we have to decide …is it a  change bringing new understanding and  growth  or just a conforming  act of  personal gratification...?

There are people, who force themselves to live by certain beliefs, which are foreign to them. They are   faced with disharmony between their wants, needs and expected behavior. The set of believes, is not a part of their inner make-up…possibly the result of social or moral influence. The energy required to force yourself  to go against your instincts or convictions  is tremendous…leaving behind a lot of bitter and disappointing feelings.

For the record, I am not referring at this time to any pathological cases of sociopathic personalities…but an average Joe and Jane of our population.

At this point…I am beginning to realize, that I could rephrase my original question, asking…Are our action mostly defined by social influence or individual need for self-expression?

I am reminded again of a beauty of our world …build by fractal shapes and not by  manmade right angles and straight lines…The flow of life is inevitable, bringing the change to every place …including us…Where was an original point is not only difficult but maybe even impossible to establish. We are intertwined with life around us, sharing space and energy…being as much recipients as givers of a change. Its only human to ask a silly questions of origins, searching for the beginning and end…after all its our most common vision…cause and effect…Have to remind myself again and again, that its not in boundaries and definitions that we really exist, but in decision to chose love as our only guide…freeing the mind, opening our hearts and feeling connected to each other.

The Little Prince

"People where you live," the little prince said, "grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don't find what they're looking for..."

"They don't find it," I answered.

"And yet what they're looking for could be found in a single rose, or a little water..."

"Of course," I answered.

And the little prince added, "But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart."
