Face to face or virtual ...still a matter of perception.

My daughter just came back from a vacation in Europe. She mainly stayed in Poland, but was lucky enough to make a short trip to the Hungary as well. Two long months of a visit gave her a chance to see a little different environment. Today, we went out for a lunch and end up talking….as usually… about people and their expectations, perceptions of the world…attitudes, goals, dreams…just typical…….kidding …only kidding…well not typical lunch conversation…but typical for us…  I stated my opinion…as usually...not asked for…nevertheless…I did …about differences in countries…people etc.

I believe (beside some cultural differences) …people will filter the reality through the lenses of their attitudes, believes, psychological make-up. If you expect to meet friendly people …most likely or in bigger part …you will do so…on the other hand if you are convinced people are bad or rude …you will meet them too… Power of thoughts..?  Well…sort of…the trap of our mind, proving itself right. Either you believe or not …you are correct. Personally I’d rather see the “friendly village”…don’t like to paint in “muddy” colors. The whole discussion of lunch came back to me a little later in the afternoon after reading an article posted by one of my good friends on facebook. The “hub page” writer took a head on approach …full of criticism and “honest truth” in evaluating social networking …precisely facebook. Pointed couple of “common sins” aka character flaws of “friends”. Somewhere from being overly melodramatic, attention seekers to unqualified advisors/philosophers ( I think that’s my sin… lol) to …if I remember correctly “quantity over quality” page fillers with useless information… As I was reading that article (sensing tone of slight passive aggression) …I’ve realized again, that we see what we choose to see… The world could be a place full of annoying people,  talking too much, laughing senselessly, having ridiculous opinions, boring and obnoxious….or  a place where everyone is free to express themselves, full of richness and colors…showing unique personality ...likes and dislikes… The choice belongs to us and our attitudes…filtering the information and building the world according to our thoughts.

My facebook friends are always very interesting to me…not because we agree nor have the same taste …but because we can learn so much from each other. Just like in “real life+” our virtual personalities will vary greatly…some will be more introverted (quiet type..)…others… fiery in expressions, some will talk a little ...others a lot...trying to connect, help, give the advice…some will just read new posts and others will produce the bunch of them… Our virtual world can’t be nicely controled , arranged  and made to everybody’s taste…it’s a living thing…All I know is that, we have the ultimate choice…not to open the PC…shut it out…no more facebook and friends…but I wouldn’t like that option…believing the learning comes from most unexpected places, people and moments…and sometime the best lessons are from someone who tests our limits…forcing  us to reexamine, making  us feel  uncomfortable, upset or highly surprised…That’s how we grow and make a decision about our future path…

I am feeling grateful for today’s talk with my daughter and the hub article …making me realize…I like my “eyes” and the way, they see the world…wouldn’t change them ….

The Little Prince

"People where you live," the little prince said, "grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don't find what they're looking for..."

"They don't find it," I answered.

"And yet what they're looking for could be found in a single rose, or a little water..."

"Of course," I answered.

And the little prince added, "But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart."
